Child Immunization Clinic at Worth County Public Health Office  May 15th

in Northwood from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.   Children under 6 years of age may receive a FREE lead test at this time.  Free home inspections are available for lead hazards to insure your child’s home is not poisoning your family.  No appointment necessary.

                                    In-office screenings at Worth County Public Health Office:

Cholesterol panels are available for $20.00 for any age with an advance appointment.  Free blood pressure checks are done Monday-Friday,  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Call 800-765-1388 or 324-1741 for information.

                                   

                                    Senior Health Clinic at Worth County Public Health – Northwood.  Age 60+ welcome for general assessment, five lab tests and health education.  Please call Worth County Public Health at 1-800-765-1388 or 324-1741 to schedule an appointment.

                                   

Nail Clinics -  For the months of May, June, and July – Nail clinics will be held at the Worth County Public Health Office only at 95 – 9th Street N. in Northwood.  Must have an appointment.  Call 324-1741 or 1-800-765-1388 to schedule the appointment.

Diabetes Awareness – A grant dealing with the diagnosis, management and prevention of diabetes in women has been awarded to the North Iowa Community Action Organization.  The grant will be used to help women in Worth, Winnebago, Palo Alto, Hancock, Cerro Gordo and Butler counties.  A minimum of 300 women per year in each county will be screened.  Beginning in January 2008, join with other women in a FREE program of education and support to improve  your health by changing your habits.  Sessions will be held at the Northwood Methodist Church and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.  Babysitting will be available for all sessions.  Join with a buddy and improve your health!  To sign up, call Worth County Public Health at 324-1741 or 1-800-765-1388.

June 2nd – 6th               Mentee Day Camp – For students in Kindergarten – 3rd grade

June 9th – 13th              Mentee Day Camp -  For students in 4th – 6th grade

June 16th – 20th           Mentee Day Camp -  For students in 7th – 9th grade

 

                                    All mentees are invited to attend the day camps from 9:00 to 1:00 each day at the mentoring building. We will be doing fun arts/craft activities, community service projects, and will be teaching a substance abuse program.  Hope to see all mentees there!

 What is 2-1-1?  It is a free health and human service information and referral helpline assigned nationwide by the FCC.  Calls are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The system covers all 99 counties in Iowa.

                                    2-1-1 offers six basic types of assistance:  Emergency Preparedness/Recovery, Basic Human needs;  Physical and Mental Health Resources; Employment Supports; Support for Older Americans and Persons with Disabilities; and Children, Youth and Families.  Information in multiple languages is available via phone and on the website.

                                    2-1-1 Benefits – 2-1-1 is simple and easy to remember, and offers one point of contact

                                    2-1-1 calls are answered 24/7, with bi-lingual service available. 

                                    2-1-1 provides trained professionals to assist callers       

                                    2-1-1 helps 9-1-1 operators and first responders focus on emergency calls

                                    Emergency Preparedness – 2-1-1 is a critical information system, which is necessary prior to, during and after a community crisis such as a flood, fire, attack or other local or national tragedy. 2-1-1 responds immediately during times of crisis, to field calls regarding the crisis and to direct callers to services most appropriate for their needs.

 

                                   

                                    The Iowa Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program – Women ages 40 thru 64 who meet certain guidelines may be eligible to receive cancer screening tests at no cost.  If you have no health insurance, insurance that does not cover these services, cannot pay insurance deductibles or co-payments, or no Medicare Part B coverage, you may qualify.  Through this program you may be able to receive referral for breast and cervical cancer treatment coverage should you be diagnosed with cancer or a pre-cancerous condition.   Call Lisa at Worth County Public Health at 324-1741 or 1-800-765-1388 for information on this program.
